The recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Europe and resulted in military aircraft flying from countries with the disease to nearby nations without it to have their landing gear sprayed with disinfectant upon landing. Unfortunately, the disinfectant was found to be corrosive to the landing gear and tires. Aircraft that have been sprayed are being watched for corrosion and sprayed again with a cleaning solution to counteract the corrosive effects of the disinfectant. If necessary, some landing gear components will be replaced.
