The Energy Department has announced its long-awaited plans to subject employees to regular polygraph (lie detector) tests, but the program will be far less extensive that first thought. The Department will subject 800 key scientists directly involved in nuclear weapons programs to the tests, rather than the 10,000 employees the Department previously indicated plans to test. About 12,000 people are actually involved in the production of US nuclear weapons. --Stephen V Cole
