One of the CIA Gnat-750 recon drones being used to track Abu Sayyaf rebels in the Philippines crashed in the ocean in late March. Divers from the US and Philippine Navies recovered the aircraft almost intact; it is not clear if it can be repaired but at least some expensive parts can be reused. The Air Force is supporting the operations in the Philippines by operating Global Hawk recon drones from bases in Australia.--Stephen V Cole
