February 19, 2025: So far Ukraine has received over 500 towed and self-propelled 155mm artillery systems. Some of these artillery pieces have been used so frequently that their barrel liners, where the rifling is, has worn out. Once a barrel has fired over 2,500 shells, the wear on the barrel causes shells to be less accurate. Currently the American manufacturer of these barrels can only replace barrels on thirty guns a month. American and British manufacturers of 155mm howitzers are increasing their ability to replace barrel liners. Both Britain and the United States are building additional facilities to replace them. These operations will be in use before the end of the year.
