Submarines: May 7, 2002

: The South African arms consortium ARMSCOR announced that they were handling the sale of the South African Navy's SAS "SPEAR". The vessel basically consists of only the hull and is therefore not seaworthy. No spares will be sold with the Daphne class submarine, which displaces 893 tons surfaced and is 57.88 meters long with a 6.75 meter beam.

As this hull may have commercial value as a spectator attraction, ARMSCOR urged readers to watch their website and tender bulletin, as well as the Sunday newspapers, for the invitation to tender. Online at http://www.armscor.co.za/Marketing/StockSales/Default.asp - Adam Geibel
