The Australian military is running out of money. Already stretched to the limit by deployments on Timor, the Solomons, and Bougainville, the cost of the Afghanistan operation has wiped out the budget and forced the Australians to seek every efficiency they can to stretch the available funds. If the Afghan operation continues into summer, Australia will have to delay or cut back some equipment purchases or seek extra funding from the parliament.--Stephen V Cole
