The factional fighting in the eastern town of Gardez has ended, leaving 60 dead and dozens of structures destroyed or damaged.

New Zealand is supplying 30 SAS (Special Air Service) troopers to work alongside the British and Australian SAS and 2 C-130s air transports to support operations in Afghanistan. These two C-130s, plus another said headed for the Philippines constitute 60 percent of the New Zealand military transport force.
