Although the US has trained Afghans to provide security for president Karzai, US Special Forces troops will remain as bodyguards. Naturally, this is because of the recent attack on Karzai.

In eastern Afghanistan, two tribes have fought for the last three days over ownership of a hill 15 kilometers north of Khost. Some 15 fighters have been killed and over 50 wounded. Over a thousand local villagers have fled the area. The central government does not have police or troops to stop such fighting, but will probably send a few negotiators to try and work out a peace deal. Khost and the surrounding area is cursed with heavily armed warlord armies who don't get along with each other. Part of the hostility is due to territorial disputes by drug gangs, but part of  it is just strong willed men who don't get along with each other.

A bomb went off in a market in Khost, wounding 12 people. The bombers were apparently Taliban supporters angry that some merchants in the market were selling pornographic videos.
