Newsweek now provides substantial evidence that the rumors of August 1995 had a basis in fact. The CIA provided Croatia with extensive military intelligence prior to and during the Croats Operation Storm offensive against Serbia in the Krajina region and Bosnia. US intelligence utilized UAV recon aircraft to provide close to real time intelligence on Serb units and positions. The UAVs operated from a base on Croatias Adriatic coast. The information was shared with Croatian General Ante Gotovina, who commanded the offensive. Ironically, Gotovina is now under indictment for war crimes committed during the offensive.
