July 16, 2006: The government has asked Sudan to negotiate a settlement of their differences. The government has also told the World Bank that more money would be spent on social programs, and less on the police and army. Meanwhile, police are arresting many anti-government activists. So there may be a peace deal with Sudan, but another round of civil war appears likely for Chad.
July 9, 2006: More Sudanese raiders are crossing through the Central African Republic (CAR), which shares borders with southern Chad, and Sudan, to get into Chad. France has troops in CAR and is trying to keep things stable.
July 8, 2006: In eastern Chad, troops skirmished with raiders from Sudan, some of whom are Chadian rebels. The fighting has left nearly twenty dead over a week of clashes.
