 In Bangladesh, rioting broke out in several cities in response to yesterday's deadly attacks against the opposition Awami League. Currently, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) defeated the Awami League in 2001 elections. The BNP is a coalition of parties, two of them Islamic. Bangladesh is mostly Moslem, and used to be the eastern part of Pakistan. This relationship ended in the 1970s, after political unrest and a civil war. East Pakistan then became Bangladesh, a Moslem country with far fewer Islamic radicals than in west Pakistan.  

Officials in the northeastern Indian state of Jharkhand say the local Maoist rebels are training suicide bombers to assassinate senior government and police officials.
