President Wahid denied accusations that he is guilty of corruption. But evidence piles up that he did have some involvement in corrupt practices and demonstrations demanding his resignation are becoming more frequent and violent. The legislature is also moving slowly towards impeachment. Indonesia is one of the more corrupt nations on the planet, but many Indonesians thought that popular religious scholar Wahid would be above it all.
