Over the last three years, the PKK has declared a unilateral truce and disbanded itself. Many PKK members openly reorganized as the Kurdistan Freedom and Democracy Congress (KADEK) party. But some PKK members have kept their guns and still roam eastern Turkey looking for trouble. The two Kurdish political parties in northern Iraq are urging Turkey to offer amnesty to PKK members who will give up the gun and agree to using their votes to push for Kurdish demands.
