January 15, 2006: Despite increased security on the Indian border, Maoists are still crossing the frontier to obtain supplies on the other side. Indian police are catching some of the Maoist agents, but interrogations indicate that many more of these Maoists are not getting caught. The Maoist terror campaign in the country continues to damage the economy and divide the country. Many Nepalis support the Maoist program of land and economic reform, but the majority oppose the Maoist call for a communist dictatorship. So you have a civil war, with poor civilians suffering the most damage, and casualties. The politicians have been unable to come up with an alternative solution.

January 14, 2006: Maoists attacked two police stations on the outskirts of the capital. In one case, the attackers wore uniforms, to get close. In the other attack, a bomb was used. Police lost twelve dead and six wounded. Meanwhile, 220 kilometers west of the capital, an army attack on Maoist bases left 16 rebels and one soldier dead.

January 12, 2006: Maoists made several attacks in central Nepal, leaving at least ten rebels dead and 12 police dead.

January 8, 2006: Maoists bombed a government office 500 kilometers southwest of the capital. Maoists have set off about a dozen bombs in the last week.
