In an operation kept secret because of the ransom negotiations, the army reported that the MILF raided the family compound of a man who had converted from Islam to Christianity (a not uncommon occurrence). Killing one person and kidnapping nine others, the rebels demanded a thousand dollar ransom. The army and police negotiated, and eventually sent troops in to liberate the civilians.

In several operations, three NPA rebels were killed and eight others captured.
