Potential Hot Spots: April 11, 2003

Ugandan and Kenyan sources both reported that Pokot cattle raiders operating out of Kenya killed at least 28 Ugandans in the Karamoja area. The raiders burned over 200 houses. Three of the dead were Ugandan border security troops. The attack took place in Ugandas Kapchorwa district. A subsequent report said the Sabiny tribe (an extended clan in Karamoja) lost over 1000 head of cattle. This is a huge economic loss for that group. Watch for this attack to spark a reaction by both Ugandan and Kenyan security forces.
