The European Union has lifted its arms embargo against Indonesia. Meanwhile, Moslem rioters burned or damaged seven Christian churches on Lombok island. This was done in protest against the religious strife in the Malukus. Violence continued in the Malukus, with three civilians dead and four policemen injured. Some 1700 have died in the Malukus during the past twelve months.
